Maine Suspends Darling Indefinitely
Maine has suspended goaltender Scott Darling indefinitely for an unspecified violation of team rules. Darling’s last game was a 6-3 loss to the Warriors on Feb. 26.
Darling’s suspension began last weekend, when he didn’t dress in either of the Black Bears’ games against UMass — the Minutemen swept the weekend series in Orono.
Maine is 15-6-3 when Darling starts and just 1-9 when he doesn’t. The suspension leaves either Dave Wilson or Shawn Sirman to start for Maine this weekend against UMass Lowell in the Hockey East playoffs.
Sirman has been pulled in seven of his eight starts this season; his only full game was a 5-1 win over Merrimack on Feb. 27. Sirman started both UMass games and was pulled in both.
Wilson has a team-leading 2.84 goals-against average and an .871 save percentage.
